Encouraging Students and Fostering Affection

Encouraging Students and Fostering Affection: Principles from Islamic Teachings

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: “In a dream, I was given a cup of milk, and I drank it to my fill. Then I handed the remaining milk to Umar.” People asked, “What does it symbolize, O Messenger of Allah?”

He replied, “Milk symbolizes knowledge” (Bukhari).

This hadith highlights two important points:

  1. Occasionally sharing food or drink with students can uplift their spirits and increase mutual affection. The more a student loves their teacher, the more blessings there will be in their knowledge.
  2. If Allah grants someone spiritual blessings, A teacher should not hesitate to share them with their students (Islah-e-Inqilab).
