Islam has elevated the status of women and granted them such honor that is unparalleled in any other religion. Islamic teachings declare that the best of people are those who treat their families the best.
A Muslim woman, from her childhood, is entitled to the right of being nurtured, cared for, and raised in the best manner. She brings comfort and joy to the hearts of her parents and siblings.
As she grows older, she is treated with dignity and respect, and her guardian—whether it’s her brother, father, husband, or any other—protects her and does not tolerate anyone causing her harm, speaking ill of her, or casting a deceitful glance in her direction.
When she marries, the marriage takes place to honor her through the most virtuous mention—the name of Allah—and through a strong covenant in His name. She resides in her husband’s home with respect, and it is incumbent upon him to treat her with honor, kindness, and never cause her harm.
When she becomes a mother, doing good to her is linked with fulfilling the rights of Allah, as Islamic teachings equate disobedience and ill-treatment of one’s mother with shirk (associating partners with Allah) and corruption on earth.
When she is a sister, a Muslim is commanded to maintain ties of kinship and treat her with respect.
As an aunt, she is accorded the same status as a mother. If she becomes a grandmother or reaches old age, her esteem only increases among her sons, grandsons, and relatives, and every request of hers is fulfilled, her opinions never disregarded.
Even if she is a stranger with no blood relation or neighborly connection, Islam obligates that no harm should come to her, one must lower their gaze, and she should be treated with respect.
In Islam, a woman has the right to own property, engage in transactions, and enter into various contracts. She also has the right to seek and impart knowledge, provided all of this is done within the framework of Islamic teachings.
Islam also commands husbands to provide for their wives, treat them well, and refrain from oppression and injustice.
