Mufti Tariq Masood Controversy September 2024
A strong voice of Islam, Hazrat Maulana Mufti Muhammad Tariq Masood Sahib (may Allah bless him), who is known on social media for his bold tone, recently found himself in the midst of controversy following a speech. Certain words in one of his statements caused a stir on social media, resulting in a strong public backlash. Although Mufti Sahib is renowned for his frank and straightforward speech, it must be remembered that, as an active individual, he too is prone to making mistakes.
It is a common truth that a person who is active in the field may occasionally err. This was also mentioned by Qazi Faiz Isa Sahib in a viral video during a conversation with Hazrat Maulana Mufti Taqi Usmani Sahib. He said that those who do nothing make no mistakes and do not face public criticism, but those engaged in work are bound to make mistakes and face reactions from people.
Mufti Tariq Masood Sahib immediately apologized for his statement, but to quell the public’s anger, he had to offer further clarification. He recorded this clarification under the direction of the head of Jamia Tur Rasheed, Hazrat Maulana Mufti Abdul Rahim Sahib (may Allah bless him). In it, not only did he seek Allah’s forgiveness, but he also retracted his words and fully repented for his error.
Despite this, if people are still unwilling to forgive him, it is deeply regrettable. This situation highlights the alarming extent to which religious differences and hatred have grown in our society. Some individuals take advantage of such situations to spread propaganda based on sectarian differences, which is entirely against the principles of Islam.
Friends, in such moments, we should choose the path of mercy and forgiveness and avoid incitement. If he has made a mistake and is seeking forgiveness, and has assured that he will not repeat such an act, then why hold on to anger? Save your anger for those who are truly opponents or blasphemers of the faith. If instead, we keep attacking one another and refuse to accept apologies, a time will come when the real enemies of Islam will be safe and secure, feeling assured that Muslims will remain busy fighting amongst themselves.
