Influential Islamic Scholars
Sheikh-ul-Hind, Hazrat Maulana Mahmood Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him), writes that Hazrat Maulana Qasim Nanotwi (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say: “There have been four scholars in the Ummah whose works, if one engages with them, can make even an unintelligent person intelligent. The first is Imam Ghazali (may Allah have mercy on him), the second is Sheikh Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi (may Allah have mercy on him), the third is Hazrat Mujaddid Alif Thani (may Allah have mercy on him), and the fourth is Hazrat Shah Waliullah Muhaddith Dehlvi (may Allah have mercy on him).”
After narrating this statement, Hazrat Sheikh-ul-Hind (may Allah have mercy on him) used to add: “I would like to include a fifth, and that is Hujjat-ul-Islam Hazrat Maulana Qasim Nanotwi (may Allah have mercy on him).”
